The Committee agrees that arranging car sharing via WhatsApp provides a way of optimising access
to more walks, yet acknowledges the need for safeguarding our attendees’ contact details and
welfare as far as possible.
Car Sharing Policy

WhatsApp groups are the preferred method of arranging lift sharing to car based walks and such
groups can be set up at by the walk leader at their discretion.

Attendees should sign up to the walk via madwalkers.org.uk/walks so that the walk leader can
circulate a link to the car sharing WhatsApp group chat via email to people who have signed up
to the walk a few days in advance.

Should they wish, the walk leader may also post a link to the car sharing WhatsApp group chat
on the MAD Walkers Members Facebook page.

The purpose of such groups is for attendees to arrange car-pooling between themselves. There
is no onus or obligation for a walk leader to make car sharing arrangements or allocate people
to cars.

Participants should respect the purpose of the WhatsApp car sharing groups and focus
discussions on this topic.

If joining the WhatsApp group members should be mindful that their contact number is visible
to all participants to the group.

Unless prior agreement is made, members should not contact group participants not known them
outside of the lift sharing WhatsApp group.
- On the day of the walk:

Please stick to agreed timings for lifts, and allow extra time for potential traffic delays.
- Be sure to share petrol and parking costs evenly with all in the car with you.

Shortly following the walk, the walk leader will close the lift sharing WhatsApp group chat.
